Mission Rewarding

Choose how you'll reward Members for completing Challenges and Missions

Mission Rewards are a way to reward members for successfully completing an individual mission. Like challenge rewards, they can take the form of Currencies (e.g. the standard Points) for Rewards, Instant Rewards and/or Badges.

👍

Before setting up rewarding for your challenge, be sure that you've created at least one mission.

Mission Rewarding Schemes

Rewarding schemes allow you to configure how mission rewards are awarded to members who have successfully completed a mission. Depending on the type of Mission and its Leaderboard Mode, there are several rewarding schemes to choose from. Note that, for team Challenges, any reward will be given to each of the members individually.

Missions using Based on a Fixed Metric

  • Just one reward, one or more times
To be used with: No Leaderboard, Order of completion or By performance value Leaderboards

Use this scheme if your mission will have just one mission reward. When the member accomplishes the Mission's criteria, he is qualified to receive the reward that you define: either at the end of the challenge or as soon as they accomplish the mission.

Note that, when using Just one reward, one or more times, you will have to first specify the rewarding scheme, the rewarding time and Save your choice. Only after that, you define what reward you want to give by clicking on New.

E.g. Use this scheme to reward Members who logs in to your Portal with 50 Points.

  • Based on performance metrics at the end of the challenge
To be used with: No Leaderboard or By performance value Leaderboard

Use Based on performance metrics at the end of the challenge to reward members based on performance metrics at the conclusion of a challenge. For each mission reward, you'll specify the range of performance percentage values (e.g. between 101% and 110% for those who accomplishes 1% to 10% more than the objective) that will qualify a member for a specific reward, so that you can give different rewards depending on the member's performance.

E.g. Use this scheme to give 50 Dollars for Members that didn't accomplish the Mission, and 120 Dollars for those that do and reach up to 110% of the Mission's objective. This is a great scheme to incentivize all Members to accomplish more.

  • Based on performance rankings at the end of the challenge
To be used with: By performance value Leaderboard

Use Based on performance rankings at the end of the challenge to reward members based on performance rankings at the conclusion of the challenge. For each mission reward, you'll specify the range of rankings that will qualify a member for the reward.

E.g. If you want to reward 50 Points to the members who are in third place at the end of the challenge, define the range as between 3 and 3 and the reward as 50 Points. This scheme rewards only the Members who reach the ranks that you defined for rewarding.

  • Different rewards depending on the order of goal completion
To be used with: Order of completion Leaderboard

Use this scheme to reward members based on the order in which they accomplish a mission. For each mission reward, you'll specify the range of time Positions that will qualify a member for the reward.

Note that, when using Different rewards depending on the order of goal completion, you will have to first specify the rewarding scheme, the rewarding time and Save your choice. Only after that, you define the range and rewards you want to give by clicking on New for each new reward.

E.g. If you want to give 100 Points for the member who finishes first and 50 Points for who finishes second, you'll have to create a new reward for each of these scenarios. This scheme rewards only the Members who accomplish the Mission in the order that you defined.

  • Cumulative rewarding based on performance
To be used with: No Leaderboard, By performance value or Order of completion Leaderboards

Use this scheme to provide real-time cumulative rewarding to members, according to the their growth performance. Know more details about this scheme in here.

  • Different rewards depending on the member's level
To be used with: No Leaderboard

Use Different rewards depending on the member's level to reward members based on their level. For each active level within your program, you'll specify a mission reward - only one reward per level in each mission. Members without level or with one not specified in the configuration to receive a reward, won't receive any.

E.g. Use this scheme to give 150 Dollars to all the Members who accomplish the Mission and that are Bronze Level, and 200 Dollars to those that are Silver Level.

Missions using Compare Among Members

  • Based on performance metrics at the end of the challenge
To be used with: No Leaderboard or By performance value Leaderboard

Use Based on performance metrics at the end of the challenge to reward members based on performance metrics at the conclusion of a challenge. For each mission reward, you'll specify the reward to be given according to how the mission's aggregation was set when created.

E.g. If the mission was created using Sum up and you defined different rewards to be given to members with sum up values from 1000 to 501 and 500 to 0, the rule will award a member who has accomplished the value 400 accordingly. The same will happen if the mission's aggregation was set to Count.

  • Cumulative rewarding based on performance
To be used with: No Leaderboard or By performance value Leaderboard

Use cumulative rewarding to provide successive, real-time rewarding to members according to their performance. Each time a member's performance passes into the next rewarding level, the member gets that reward immediately.

Note that, when using Cumulative rewarding based on performance, you will have to first specify the rewarding scheme, the rewarding time and Save your choice. Only after that, you define the range and rewards you want to give by clicking on New for each new reward.

    E.g.

Scenario: Over the third quarter, you want to reward 500 Points to members who sell between $1,000 and $2,499 worth of qualifying product, an additional 1,000 Points to members who sell between $2,500 and $4,000 in sales of that product, and so on, with rewarding to occur at the moment the member crosses into the new level.

Outcome: Toward the beginning of the quarter, María earns 500 Points as soon as she closes a sale that gets her over $1,000 in qualifying cumulative sales. Three weeks later, she makes it over $2,500 and so she wins an additional 1,000 Points.

For each active level within your program, you'll specify a mission reward - only one reward per level in each mission. Members without level or with one not specified in the configuration to receive a reward, won't receive any.

E.g. You might decide that all the Bronze level Members will receive 150 Points if they participate in the challenge and accomplish the Mission. Note that, for missions compare among members, all members who participate in the challenge will receive the reward according to their level when the challenge ends.

Cumulative rewarding based on performance

When used in missions based on a fixed metric, this rewarding scheme is more complex. Let's understand all of its aspects.

Similar to how some of the other schemes work, when using Cumulative Rewarding you will create percentage ranges - related to the mission goal - and define a reward for each one. For example, you can award members with 50 Dollars when they achieve 100% to 120% of the goal and 100 Dollars when they achieve between 120% and 130%.

However, instead of giving only one reward per member, this rewarding scheme is cumulative: the member would win 50 Dollars and an additional 100 Dollars in case they reach both ranges.

1099

Mission rewarding scheme configuration

Another important detail about the Cumulative rewarding based on performance scheme is that, since it incentivizes growth, the rewarding is calculated considering the amount that surpasses the mission goal. You can even use this scheme combined with the historical data value mode, in order to induce members to achieve more and more over time, making your program yield better results.

📘

Baseline

Mission Members related to a mission that uses this scheme can have a particular status, Baseline met, which means that they have achieved the mission goal. Only after that, will they be eligible to receive any reward.

It is also possible to limit how much Currencies the mission will give away to each member; a way of capping how much the member can win when they just keep reaching all the ranges you created, earning all the rewards. This is applied to all rewarding ranges and divided only by each Currency, so be careful to calculate the sum of all Currency rewards before defining a limit.

Finally, when using the Cumulative Rewarding scheme, members can receive each range's reward in two different moments:

  • Immediately - as soon as the member's performance reaches the upper percentage of a range. Note that, if there are any lower ranges and the percentage reached is from a higher range, members will receive those rewards instantly too.
  • At the end of the challenge - when you do not set an upper percentage or if the member performance doesn't reach it.

Take a look in these real-case scenarios, in order to understand how it all works better:

Scenario: The mission goal is to sum $10,000.00 worth of closed opportunities in this current semester. You want to reward partners with 50 Dollars when they achieve between 100% and 120% of the mission's goal, 100 Dollars when they achieve between 120% and 130%, and an additional 150 Dollars when they achieve beyond 130%.

Outcome: Towards the beginning of the semester, Alex (a program member) closes a $13,000.00 opportunity and earns 150 Dollars immediately.

Why: Because he reached 130% of the goal at once.
Scenario: The mission goal is to sum $10,000.00 worth of closed opportunities in this current semester. You want to reward partners with 5% of the amount above the baseline when they accomplish between 100% and 120% of the mission's goal. And an additional 10% of the amount above baseline when they achieve between 120% and 130%.

Outcome: Alex closes an opportunity with an amount of $12,500. He immediately earns 100 Dollars (5% of $2,000.00) and when the challenge finishes, he earns 50 Dollars more (10% of $500.00).

Why: He earns the first reward immediately, because he has reached 120% of the mission's goal. The second is delivered at the end of the challenge, because he has not achieved 130%. Also, note that in this scenario, the mentioned "baseline" is the lower percentage of each range.
📘

Using another field in conversion mode

By default, if the Currency reward has Percentage as its Conversion Mode or if the mission uses historical data (and Percentage or Multiplier Conversion Mode is selected), the field that it is based on will always be Growth.

To use a different field, create a new field with CustomGrowthFields__c as the API name in Public Settings. Add any field(s) from the Member object (separated by semicolons) in this field to show them as options in the conversion mode.

Adding a Mission Reward

Mission Rewards are how members are rewarded for successfully accomplish a Mission. They award currencies (e.g.the standard Points), Instant Rewards and/or Badges.

🚧

By default, negative rewarding is not allowed. If your use case requires this, contact us.

To create a new Mission Reward, go to your Challenge page. On the Missions card, click in the row corresponding to the target Mission and select Mission Reward.

🚧

Be aware that, after creating a mission reward, you can only edit missions based on member's level and the rewarding ranges in missions that are based on member performance.

1349

Creating a new mission rewarding

An alternative way, is to click on the mission's name in order to access its page. At the bottom, select Specify Rewarding Scheme or New within the Rewarding related list.

1349

Mission page

Choose the rewarding scheme you want to use. Then, choose when you want the rewarding to occur:

  • Mission Accomplished means that winning members will be rewarded as soon as they accomplish the mission. This option is only available for Just one reward, one or more times, Different rewards depending on the order of goal completion and Different rewards depending on the member's level (for missions based on a fixed metric).
  • Challenge Finished means that winning members will be rewarded at the conclusion of the challenge that the mission is a part of.

📘

"Cumulative rewarding based on performance" Rewarding

Missions based on a fixed metric which use this rewarding scheme don't require you to define when the rewarding will happen, since the rewards will be given either immediately after the higher range is reached or when the challenge finishes.

Furthermore, you can use only fixed value, multiplier (for currencies without payout) or percentage (for currencies with payout) as the conversion mode when defining a currency reward for this scheme.

🚧

Using multiplier and factor with fractional values

Note that, if the numerical field from the target object or the Conversion Value is a fraction and it is multiplied or divided by an integer, the system will round the result down (until .4) or up (from .5).

For example, imagine that you have a transaction with 0.4 Points and it should be multiplied by 1; the result will be 0. If the transaction has 0.6 Points instead, the result will be 1.

Specify Additional Rewarding (Optional)

In case you'd like to award members with something other than Currencies, Badges or the regular Rewards, you can implement an Apex Class with custom functionality that will allow you to offer additional rewarding, such as a special benefit or a ticket.

The code will be executed when the member performs an action that accomplishes the mission, giving you further rewarding flexibility.

Check out the guide to do that here.
